Hispanic Arts Scotland

So you think you can dance?

Description July 2013: just festival, formerly the Festival of Spirituality & Peace, has teamed up with Hispanic Arts Scotland to organise a fun Flamenco Flashmob in Edinburgh city centre on 1 August, 6-6.30pm. More than 50 people are expected to take part in this memorable experience from across the city.

Free dance classes, with live music, take place at different venues throughout the city:

·         Dance Base, 14-16 Grassmarket, from 11am-12.30pm on the 6, 13, 20 and 27 July.
·         Craigmillar Community Arts Centre, Newgraighall Road, from 2-3.30pm on the 6, 20 and 27 July, and 6-7.30pm on 13 July.
·         Whale Arts, 30 Westburn Grove, from 7.30-9pm on the 11, 18, and 25 of July.
·         Carlton Centre, 121 Montgomery St, on the 11, 18 and 25 of July.

There will also be rehearsals with participants from all over Edinburgh at St John's on Princes Street, the hub of just festival, on 29 and 31 July, 7-9pm. Those attending the free classes in July are asked to be available for the rehearsals at St John's and, of course, for the event itself, so you don't miss your moment of fame.

Flamenco is a beautiful, fun and fiery Spanish traditional dance that originated from the Romani, or Gypsy, community. Benefits to dancers include increased fitness, flexibility and focus. Participants in the project can also benefit from increased confidence, self-expression, de-stressing and meeting new people in their community and beyond.
