Hispanic Festival 2011 Opening Night


The night's fabulous cultural programme includes:

18.30: Galo Cerón (Edinburgh's outstanding Chilean guitarist) will serenade the audience as it assembles. Wine and fresh drinks will be offered on the Stairwell in front of the Reference Library.

19.00: James Macdonald Reid (leading European bagpiper) will pipe the platform party into the Reference Library:

19.05: Introductions by Festival Directors and Library Staff: the Festival Opened by the Spanish Consul Javier Jimenez Ugarte.

19.15: Poetry Reading by Douglas Dunn: Professor Dunn, of the University of St Andrews, has, for forty years been recognised as one of Britain's most distinguished poets. In 2011 his Selected Poems, 'Poemas Escogidos', was published in Spanish. Professor Dunn will introduce and read a selection of his poems in English: Ana Cabrera will read them in Spanish. 19.50: Jean Redpath, the great Scots folk-singer - a Legend in North America, too rarely seen in Scotland - will present a short concert of Spanish and Scots songs - in the fiftieth year of her international career

20.10: Break

20.15: Flamenco! Tote dances with Flame and Fury - and with her compatriots sets the Seventh Hispanic Festival Alight

20.45: James Macdonald Reid - Pipes the Retreat!
