FLAMENCO NOW! Record Release & Free talk

Description

Treat yourself to tapas and drinks at the El Bar from 7.30pm.

The night includes an Illustrated talk with question and answer session 9pm.

Special Guests: Maria 'Tote' Conte, flamenco dancer, Seville and Pedro el Camaleón.

To celebrate the release of the Rough Guide to Flamenco Dance and the Rough Guide to Flamenco and Nascente Flamenco 3CD, disc compiler and  ethnomusicologist Dr Jan Fairley will be welcoming people to Alba Studio to talk about what goes into a compilation: how and why the artists and tracks are chosen, which are the pioneering record companies, how to balance the 'palos', with special contribution from  dancer and 'palo' advisor 'Tote' Conte.

Jan has been reviewing flamenco discs and writing about flamenco  for the Rough Guide to World Music, Songlines and fRoots magazines and newspapers (Scotsman, Guardian) since the 1980s. She has interviewed various flamenco musicians and dancers over the years and regularly goes to the Jerez Flamenco  Festival (the annual  touchstone for all new work), the Sadler's Wells Flamenco Festival and the Seville Flamenco Biennale.

The two CDS will be on sale at a special rate on the night.

Please come along and help celebrate!
